A woman of character can recognise and appreciate one from her own tribe and that is what I see in Sonu Dahling. I see my razor sharp tongue and eccentric taste for fashion in her, the only difference being- designers are at her beck and call and I am stuck here looking for a good tailor. If I could I’d egg every tailor’s shop who’s stitched me shapeless blouses, nothing like the cuts that these actresses wear but then such is life. While they walk away with the best, I am searching for the right buttons in the by-lanes of Chandni Chowk. So, the other day when I was on the rickshaw returning to my parked Mercedes in CP, the jolts from the potholes made me appreciate #everythingphenomenal in Sonam Kapoor’s life. Read with caution because you’d be left wanting to claw your face off after reading this.
Jhakaas Baap, Jhakaas Beti
When you have a father like Anil Kapoor who with his youthful looks puts my husband to shame, you are lucky. He dotes on Sonam and we are all well aware of that. You have a father who’s a fantastic actor to learn from, a father whose sense of humour can turn you into the life of the party and a father who is so appreciative of you that no wonder you would attend Koffee With Karan with none other than him. Not to mention him starring with her in the somewhats controversial film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga - a movie which addresses the theme of homosexuality in the Indian society.
Now how many daughters are lucky to be on a show like that with their dads? I know my dad and I got rejected from Doordarshan when that used to be a rage.
Hum Do Humaare Teen
Anil and Sunita Kapoor must burst with pride when they see their three children. I know I am jealous of watching the siblings and their bond. Every photograph that is uploaded on Instagram by either of them portrays the love and strength in their relationship. Even on Koffee With Karan, the three brought the house down. I mean all I got for Rakshabandhan was Shaan-Sagarika brother-sister duo album. Siyaappa.
Ruling The World Together
Rhea Kapoor the ace stylist that she is to Sonam is also her awesome sister. Together they’ve created some of the best looks for Sonam and every year we wait with a baited breath to see what her next outfit will be at the Cannes. She has hit the jackpot in the style department because of her sister and now I want one too. But I guess I will have to do with my stupid AI of a stylist that my husband bought me for our anniversary last year. The stupid robot cannot even choose the right dupatta for me, let alone an outfit.
The Kapoor family is hugeeee, and I do mean that when I see all of the cousins under one roof. When you have a funny man like Arjun in the family then laughter is unbillable. Her sisters are Jahnvi and Khushi Kapoor, I mean have you seen their clothes? I would camp in their wardrobe just to steal some of the sequinned dresses to sleep on. It’s like Sonu has been blessed with my share of happiness, argh!
While the west gave us Sex And The City and TayTay’s squad goals, Sonam in India has helped redefine female friendship in Bollywood. There’s everyone in it right from the vivacious Kareena Kapoor to the über hot Malaika Arora (potential Bhabhi *wink wink*) and the firebrand Swara Bhaskar. I mean how? I cannot even get a recipe out my friend and here these ladies are laughing over my favourite Bellini. I wish I could hop into one of their bags as a chihuahua from Beverly Hills.
No Bad Angle
Like there wasn’t enough to be jealous of her, now she’s blessed with a face that has no bad angles, I mean hello? Where did my genes screw up? The ace director Sanjay Leela Bhansali once told Sonam Kapoor that she has no bad angle and can be photographed from either side and obviously she hasn’t stopped repeating that at every interview of hers. I think it’s sorta cute the way she says it, like a knife that stabbed you through your red velvet cake.
They came, they partied, they conquered and how! The entire nation knows how fantastic Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja’s wedding was, I still cannot get over the image of Kareena dancing in her saree next to the DJ console. Everyone had come and partied like never before. Each function made it to social media and had everyone hopping in excitement. Her friends even did a flash mob in between the reception- only difference it had big names like Swara Bhaskar in it. I cannot even get my entourage of help to work in peace and here she has a mob of famous people dancing.
Last but not the least, everyone wishes to find someone they love and respect hoping for it to be reciprocated. Well, clearly my ticket must have flown off my hands when I was in line for a rich hubby because Sonam clearly found it. She found a supportive and a caring husband in Anand Ahuja, a man who is not afraid to add his wife’s name to his. Anand Sonam Ahuja, that is the man who came into her life, proving her detractors wrong who kept taunting her all her life, calling her too dark, too fat or too tall to marry. I suppose every aunty cannot be loving like your Kitty Aunty no? I like that #EverydayPhenomenal is a hashtag that has become synonymous to this couple. It is nice to see love being celebrated without the extra dollop of unwanted laal mirchi. Meow!
